Ms. Clarkson has been a licensed social worker since 1999. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ithaca College in 1992, and received her Master of Social Work degree from Hunter College, City of New York, in 1999. Prior to obtaining her MSW, she worked in mental health programs serving the deaf and hard of hearing population. Shortly after receiving her MSW, she began working at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Westchester County, New York, where she continued to work for 16 years. Over the course of her career there, she held various positions in both inpatient and outpatient services, primarily working with children, adolescents, and their families. She held administrative positions in the day treatment program for children as well as the children’s inpatient behavioral health unit. As a clinician in the outpatient department, she provided a variety of services, including individual, group and family therapy. She was also part of specialized programs, including the deaf and hard of hearing program and the children of divorce program. Ms. Clarkson is experienced in working with children, adolescents, and adults. She is fluent in American Sign Language and has extensive experience working with Deaf children and adults. She also has had experience collaborating with school systems and consulting on issues related to special education. Areas of expertise include childhood behavior dysregulation, parent-child interactions, anxiety and mood disorders, attention deficit disorder, and adjustment issues. She employs a variety of treatment approaches including family therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, positive behavior intervention, psychodynamic therapy, and skills teaching.
